After disconnecting power and water, use a multimeter to check the resistance of the water inlet valve coils. A reading of infinity or zero ohms indicates a faulty coil. You can also apply 120V AC directly to the valve terminals (with extreme caution) to see if the valve opens.
The temperature sensor is typically located near the bottom of the wash tub, often embedded within the heater element assembly (if equipped) or directly mounted to the tub. Refer to the washer's service manual for the exact location.
The water inlet valves are typically powered by 120V AC. Always disconnect power before testing and use caution when working with electrical components.
The Roper washer's MCU (Main Control Unit) monitors the water temperature through a temperature sensor. It also controls the water inlet valves to allow hot and cold water to enter the tub. When the MCU detects a discrepancy between the selected water temperature and the actual water temperature, it triggers the HC error code. This error often indicates that the hot and cold water hoses are swapped, leading to incorrect temperature readings and valve operation.
Disconnect the power to the washer at the breaker panel before performing any repairs. Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures should be followed. Some components may retain electrical charge, so use caution when handling wiring. Confirm the washer is unplugged before working near water supply connections.
Periodically inspect the water hoses for cracks, leaks, or damage. Ensure the hoses are securely connected to the correct inlets. Clean the water inlet valve screens to prevent clogs. If you move the washer, double-check hose connections before running a cycle.
Many Roper washers have a diagnostic mode. To enter it, press and hold the Start/Pause button while simultaneously pressing another button like 'Cycle Select' three times within 5 seconds. This can display stored error codes and allow for component testing.
