Frequently Asked Questions
•What is a 'short to ground' on the compressor windings?
A short to ground means that the electrical insulation on the compressor motor windings has failed, and electricity is leaking to the metal casing of the compressor. This is a dangerous condition and usually means the compressor is beyond repair.
•How do I test the start relay/overload with a multimeter?
Set your multimeter to the ohms setting (resistance). With the refrigerator unplugged, remove the start relay/overload from the compressor. Place one probe on each terminal of the relay. A reading of close to zero ohms (continuity) indicates a good relay. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a faulty relay that needs replacement.
•What type of refrigerant does my Roper refrigerator use?
Most modern Roper refrigerators use R134a or R600a refrigerant. This information is typically found on a sticker located on the back of the refrigerator near the compressor. Note: Working with R600a requires extra precautions due to its flammability.
