The drum belt should be routed around the drum and the motor pulley. The idler pulley provides tension. The belt should be snug, allowing for about 1/4-inch of deflection when pressed midway between the drum and the idler pulley.
•What type of grease should I use to lubricate the dryer rollers and idler pulley?
Use a high-temperature, non-melting grease specifically designed for appliance applications. White lithium grease is a suitable option.
•How can I tell if the motor bearings are failing without taking the dryer apart?
Listen closely to the motor while the dryer is running. A failing motor bearing will often produce a grinding or rumbling noise, especially during start-up and shut-down. Also, check the amperage draw of the motor while it's running. A higher than normal amperage can also indicate a failing motor. Compare the measured amperage with the specified amperage rating on the motor nameplate.
