Frequently Asked Questions
•How do I test the defrost heater element?
Using a multimeter, check for continuity across the heater element terminals. A reading of near zero ohms indicates a functional heater. An open circuit indicates a failed heater.
•Where is the defrost thermostat located and what does it look like?
The defrost thermostat is typically clipped to the evaporator coil. It is a small, round or rectangular component with two wires attached. It is often encased in a plastic or metal housing.
•How do I clear a blocked defrost drain line?
Use a hair dryer to gently melt the ice blockage from the top of the drain line (usually located under the evaporator coil). You can also use a turkey baster to flush hot water down the drain. Be sure to clear any debris that may be causing the blockage. A flexible wire can also be carefully used to break up the ice.
